5.0 out of 5 stars Blowing the original out of the water.
There is no doubt, the author Pasco is nothing short of genius as a wordsmith. Taking the basic concept of the characters shortcomings in the Wizard of Oz, she transforms them into an ingenious adaption. Here we have a wizened sage coaxing the potential from his students in a way that benefits them all. Tremendous in the rich and very astute dialect. A must read for true book lovers and connoisseur 's of imagination.
I was expecting a cozy mystery until I read the reviews and then I knew I really wanted to read this book. The story is as complex as it is simple, two vastly different women vying for the same thing, something they think is integral to their perception of success. Both may be surprised to find the journey more rewarding than the outcome. The author writes with fluency of words missing in the majority of today's fiction. Her language spills like water, taking you with it, words pooling and flowing around the characters as it brings them to life like Spring rain. It was a true work of literature. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfume and Music Play on All Your Senses
Landing inside Carla Matteo’s head as she is in the throes of night sweats, the reader immediately enters the action in Underlying Notes. What kind of life is it? On the surface, it’s a simple life. Carla is married to Joe and has been his true helpmate for years. Underneath there are all sorts of disturbing factors, which is mostly the case for married people. Is it fair to speak of a midlife crisis? Perhaps even mention a marital crisis?Joe may or may not have extramarital activities, and Carla has made career choices that she may or may not regret. Add to that a cast of Italian family members – possible mob connections – former and current friends, Italian food, and music, spanning from the 1812 Overture, over The Hollies and The Beetles, to Andrea Bocelli and Italian schmalz. In this way, Ms Pasco confronts her readers with a many-faceted, fragrance rich environment. On top of it all resides Carla’s love for perfume. It is her refuge and passion, as well as something she has investigated for years, notably on a website for fragrance afficionados. Thus, a new career opportunity surfaces but dwindles as fast, due to a stuck Amtrak train and a long taxi ride.Below and above there is food, fragrance, unbridled marital lovemaking, and music to heighten the senses. In Ms Pasco’s flowing prose, and through her insight into human nature, this becomes a mesmerizing tale about humanity.
Smart, clever, snide, and nostalgic, Pasco writes with élan on a vast array of topics dear to the hearts of Baby Boomers. Raleigh coupons, candy cigarettes, Bazooka Joe, Nancy Drew, mohair, Carnaby street, the celery green walls of primary school academia; it's all here, just as it was when we boomers were in bloom. In addition to the title’s multiple entendre, these memoirs are filled with snarky allusion and Wildean epigrams; sometimes in the same sentence. "Before you get the notion I’m going to drawl about roping cattle or saddling up at the Flat Broke Ranch, I’m not steering you there by a longhorn shot.” (22)Pasco’s snapshots of yesteryear, a collection of pieces she originally penned for The Sixties Official Site, are more than mere nostalgia; they are tiny well-researched histories which include background on the social, political, and cultural mores of the time, spiced with odd details such as the fact that Green Stamps printed three times more stamps than the U.S. Post Office throughout the 60s.Nicely crisp metaphors abound. "Eyes stung, hair and clothes reeked, curdles of smoke and carbon incensed the air like a priest performing benediction at high mass." (106) And; any and all afunctional alliterates will delight in sinewy sentences such as: "Crushed by the cresting catastrophic contaminated canned cranberry cancer caper, I crumpled and cried..." (132)A vastly entertaining and informative treat, not just for people of a certain age, but for everyone living or breathing who enjoys quality writing and razor-sharp wit.
Five Star Rating for An Uneasy InheritanceGreat StoryReviewed in the United States on November 30, 2018This is an excellent book. I'm a historian in Clinton County, where the book is set, and this story captures the setting and feel of the area well. Much of the history is very accurate, and so are the investigative techniques. I'm very picky about my local history and my paranormal stories, and this one is very well done
Review: This is a thoroughly enjoyable story. Celia Martin's research and attention to detail made it easy to feel transported to a different place and time. The characters were entirely believable and the emotions expressed felt genuine and honest. It is a page-turner with romance and adventure and - Yay! - a happy ending. I look forward to the next book and am going to order it now.

What an Interesting book!Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2021Verified PurchaseThis is the story of a journal, passed through time, generation to generation, bride to bride. The Element Benders: WATER5.0 out of 5 stars Great mix of supernatural and romance! Fast paced, a great read!Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2022Verified PurchaseWhat are Element benders you may ask? Special people that can “bend” (use) elements like fire, water, etc to help others. This is the 2nd book in the series and I liked it even better than the first! The same characters are back, as well as some new ones. But you don’t necessarily need to read the first book before this. We learn more about the characters and their backgrounds as well as how they are facing a direct threat to their kind. I like the mix of supernatural and romance. It was fast paced and I read it in less than a day!

We get to find out more of Benny's story and it is really a good story that gets you right in the feels. I love the family tree series by Kincaid but I'm not wanting to read the next one because it's the end. I don't want it to be over!! I can't imagine not getting to spend time with such relatable characters and their ghostly family! But that is the markings of a great story....you never want to leave it.

Dugout Fantasy5.0 out of 5 stars Clean and CuteReviewed in the United States on April 28, 2020I'm not usually one for clean romances, but a good storyline will get me intrigued. I was lucky enough to read an ARC of this a week before it released. I couldn't put it down. Seriously, I started reading it around 9:30pm and stopped when I hit "The End" around 2am. It is sweet, with a sense of realism that many women can relate to (especially single moms!).As a Pittsburgh local, I've also been to Treasure House Fashions, and I can attest to the reality of the store and its mission. The women there are fun and ready to help in any way they can.If you haven't read a TK book yet, I highly recommend her. This book is a great addition to my own collection.

Saving Maggie5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful love story!Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2018A powerful story of all-consuming love, hate, and redemption. Two lost souls come together at a time when neither of them cares if they live or die. They have both given up hope of ever experiencing a moment of joy or love in their bleak lives again.A lonely farmer has taken Maggie in, cared for her, and has resigned himself to the knowledge that she will never be free from the demons that haunt her. When Dillon comes to him looking for a temporary job and a place to stay he thinks he now has two wounded souls to watch over, but when Maggie and Dillon become friends, Jeb begins to feel hope that Maggie will break down the walls around her heart and that Dillon will forgive himself and realize that life is worth living.Dillon and Maggie will absolutely break your heart, but their healing will lift you up and have you shedding tears of joy.
